Alexandra Knie (Duitsland/Spanje)
Vervlechtingen en verwikkelingen interesseren Alexandra op artistiek vlak, als textiele, tactiele constructies, maar ook op metaforisch en sociaal vlak.
Ze is opgegroeid in de dichte bossen van Duitsland en leeft al acht jaar met de flora van de Middellandse Zee. De aard van beide regio's beïnvloedt haar artistieke denken.
Nature Art betekent voor haar het begrijpen van de natuur als coproducent. Het impliceert de interactie met de hulpbronnen ervan en toestaan dat de oncontroleerbare groeiprocessen deel uitmaken van de artistieke productie.
Nature Art 2024
Mijn werk hanteert een poëtische benadering van het begin van (planten) leven. Het begint met een cel, die zich ontwikkelt tot een verweven weefsel dat geleidelijk de uiteindelijke structuur en vorm van de soort vormt. Ik heb deze cellulaire weefsels vergroot en omgevormd tot een delicate maar veerkrachtige structuur. Om dit te bereiken, gebruik ik brandnetelvezels, die ik eerst draai tot draadjes, die vervolgens de vorm aannemen van cirkels van verschillende groottes en vormen, die langzaam dichter bij elkaar komen. Elke cirkel is met knopen verbonden, waardoor een stabiele structuur ontstaat. Dit artistieke proces weerspiegelt de natuurlijke groeipatronen en verwijst naar tijd en geduld. De resulterende structuur roept ook kant op, een materiaal dat ooit van grote waarde was in de regio Vlaanderen. Het stuk beweegt in de wind, reflecteert het licht en laat het communiceren met zijn natuurlijke omgeving.

Alexandra Knie (*1984, in Mechernich, Germany) is a visual artist specialising in textile art and bio-art, who lives and works in Valencia, Spain. From 2003 to 2007, she studied painting at the Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences in Alfter near Bonn, Germany, with additional studies in Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Genoa, Italy (2006), as well as Cultural Studies and Fashion-Textile Design at the University of Paderborn in Germany (2009).
Alexandra has received international grants and awards, including Enclave Land Art, Quesa/Valencia (2023), Neustart Kultur from the German Artists Association (Deutscher Künstlerbund e.V.), Berlin (2021), FACBA 21 from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Granada (2020), Cultura Online (2023, 2020) and Cultura Resident (2018) from the Consorci de Museus de la Comunitat Valenciana (Consortium of Museums of the Valencian Community), as well as the ATP Aquisition Prize at Contextile - Contemporary Textile Art Biennial in Guimarães, Portugal (2016).
Alexandra has exhibited in Spain, Germany, Portugal, the Netherlands, the United States, and Lithuania, including at the Brühler Kunstverein (Germany, 2024), Kunstmuseum Ahlen (Germany, 2021), Centro Cultural Caja Granada (Spain, 2021), Centre del Carme, Valencia (Spain, 2023, 2020, 2018), Museum August Macke Haus, Bonn (Germany, 2020), Museum of Applied Arts, Cologne (Germany, 2019), Disseny Hub, Barcelona (Spain, 2019), and Centro Cultural Vila Flor, Guimarães (Portugal, 2018, 2016).
