ARTIST STATAMENT
I am a Hungarian visual artist from Transylvania, I was born in 1986 in Gyergyószárhegy. I graduated from high school of fine arts, then I obtained a university degree in graphics and a master's degree in visual communication. Since 2013, when I finished my institutional education, I work mostly in environmental art, conceptual art, and site-specific installations. My outdoor artworks are created with natural materials and motivated by environmental protection. Sometimes I build large-scale artwork determined by the given environment, and sometimes I just experiment with natural elements in research-based installations. I am also working on site-specific installations in galleries, where my intention is to find a "way out" and guide the audience's interpretation beyond the walls, back to Nature. "Eszter Vámosi" an art historian once stated: "Réka Szabó's installations want to get out of the galleries. They are timeless and limitless. Her play with light and space extends beyond walls." In its cunning way, nature is simple, but these simplicities appear in riddles. Working in Nature my most interest is solving these riddles through the interpretation of our human existence to understand that we are one with the surrounding landscape which we must keep protected.
